The Mind-Body-Spirit

This week in my Creating Wellness class I was asked to listen and follow along to the audio clip for "Loving Kindness"

While I was listening and going along with the clip I once again felt as if any stress I had had drifted away. I always enjoy listening and following along with the clips because I get a moment to myself to truly relax. This clip was a little different than others because it focused on your thoughts and feeling. At first it asked you to think about a loved one that we hold close to us and just take a moment to enjoy the love you have for that person. I of course thought of my wonderful husband. I always think about him and the way he is and why I love and enjoy having him in my life but in this exercise I was given time to really focus on the qualities I dear the most. When I thought about him I had only pleasant thoughts.

The next step was to focus on your thoughts and feeling about your self. Me being a girl of course some of the negative feelings I have with myself popped right out but as the exercise went on it explained we cannot fully love others unless we love our self and to think about those negative and unpleasant thoughts and turn them into good. I was feeling able to let go on some of the negative feelings that I had and most women do have about my body and looks. Women are very hard on our selves but if we took time like I did to really point out great qualities about yourself and look at the negative thoughts and feeling in a good way we can start to feel better about our self and start the healing process.

Although this clip was a little longer than other I enjoyed every minute of it. During the time frame of the clip I was taken away from the stressful life I have and able to relax and open my mind. In doing this I finish with a clear mind and I'm happier. Relaxation clips have always been an enjoyable experience for me because I am able to shut the world out for that period of time and let go of any negative thoughts or feeling I may have. I use to do it more when I worked at a daycare. I would do it during nap time to help relieve the stress of the morning and prepare myself for the afternoon. The kids were not bad but when you have 24 pre-schooler running around it does get hectic and can be stressful at time. So I always had my relaxation music going during nap and I also believe it helped the kids calm down and relax a bit as well.

The mental workout concept is like everything else we do in life. We have to work at it to make it better. Just like muscles you are not going to get them and keep them without doing something to make sure they stay. Research has shown that by working on our mental state we are able to accomplish so much more with out inner health. Studies have shown that we can prevent some illnesses and we can have a better life as far as inner health goes. When we do mental workouts we have the ability to do so much more with our self than we can image. By doing these exercise we can let go of the negative thoughts and feelings we may have that cause stress, anger and more. If we let go of those negative feeling we let go of the "negative" affects it has on our mind and body.
